THE TOP 10 SIGNS OF BURNOUT
By Carmen Stine, PhD

Everyone experiences negative thoughts and periods of restlessness and apathy from time to time. But, if you are suffering from the following signs on a consistent basis or for a prolonged period of time, then it may be time to seek professional help for developing healthy coping skills. Below are the most common signs of burnout:

  1. You are as tired when you get up as when you go to bed at night. Tension, stress, worry, or anxiety do not allow your body to relax. Try exercising or going for a walk to relieve some of the stress and tension a couple of hours before bedtime. A warm bath, soothing music, and a fragrant room will help relax you and ready you for a good night’s rest.
  2. You avoid others at work. If interacting with others is too much effort, limit your interaction to small bites of time. This keeps you in touch with people without having to spend an hour at lunch.
  3. You avoid social situations with family and friends. Social isolation creates more stress and tension. Social stimulation with people who can support you can help you ease the burden of isolation without having to pretend everything’s fine.
  4. You have serious doubts about your ability to do anything. When doubts plague you, take a few minutes to write down your accomplishments at times when you were not feeling so stressed or despondent. Seeing your wins in writing helps you keep the perspective on reality.
  5. Nothing matters to you anymore. Despondency is difficult to control or overcome, particularly when you are isolated or alone. To avoid being overwhelmed, take one task at a time and complete it, then go on to the next one. This feeling of accomplishment will begin to inspire and focus you again.
  6. You are chronically impatient…with everyone. Realizing and accepting your moods is helpful in getting you to seek help. Look out for patterns that trigger your impatience and avoid those as much as possible.
  7. You are chronically irritable…even with yourself. Same as # 7 above.
  8. You have become a constant and persistent complainer about everything.
  9. You are experiencing eating disorders.
  10. You are on a never-ending pity party. Seek professional help if you notice that you are experiencing apathy for more than a couple of months.

HIT THEM WITH BENEFITS
By BIG Mike McDaniel

It makes no difference what media you use to advertise, the rules are the same. Benefits, benefits, benefits.

Advertise benefits and your advertising will be a success. Take a poll, they don’t care about car dealers, banks or tire stores. All they care about is “What’s in it for me?”.

The fact that your dealership has been number one in the mid-region for 3 straight years is not advertising – it is bragging!

Explain what you have done for others. Tell what you can do for them. Remember the rule – it is always about them – not about you! Look at the advertising around you. Egads! Most of it is about the advertiser. Especially that 20 foot mug shot of the car dealer on the billboard.

Think benefits and you have a leg up on advertising that works, rather than advertising that gets the neighbors to say “Hey, I saw you on the billboard”, or “..saw your picture in the paper again.” Trust me, strangers won’t mention your picture. And that giant billboard pic won’t bring a sole through the door or get them to buy your product.

The reason you see so much bad advertising is that “ego” sells and the newspapers and billboard people know it. You even hear people who can’t read stumbling through their own radio commercials. Three friends mention it and they think the advertising was a success and sign up for more.

You don’t need a picture of your building, you need a description of what is inside and what it can do for me. Don’t tell me you have the largest selection, or latest styles and colors. Tell me if you don’t have it in stock you can get it overnight. Don’t tell me you have 20 years’ experience. Tell me you’ll show up on time, smell good and fix my toilet, or I don’t pay.

Let the other guys flush their ad money with giant pictures of the staff, or TV commercials with the grand kids shouting a slogan. You concentrate on WIIFM, What’s In It For Me, and your advertising will work harder for you.

HOW DO YOUR BUSINESS AND YOUR CREATIVITY INTERMINGLE?
By Jim Biscardi

When you hear the terms business and creative, you may realize that often these are oxymorons. It takes someone who thinks and works by structure and regulations to work in most businesses, while creativity brings you to think of artists and unstructured interpretations of things. There are some areas where creativity is used in a business world. However, if you have a creative personality and you are stuck in a job that does not allow you to use these creative talents, you may begin to feel suffocated in your current position. The extent of your creativity maybe limited to listening to a particular type of music or adding a little extra flair to your work attire. One way to break out of the monotony is to build your own business, one which allows you to think creatively and practice thinking and working outside of the box.

You may want to consider using the Laws of Attraction to build and base your new found career. These laws emphasize that the amount of effort and creativity that you apply into your life, then more you will receive it. The laws state that what you focus on will cause it to be attracted to you and enter your life. One way to use this knowledge is to begin to think positively, to add more positive things into your life and business.

You must begin to focus on the positive and creative aspects of your life, to ensure that you receive more positive and creative things from your business and life. You should focus on the things that you have natural abilities at, whether it is painting pictures, building furniture, photography or a million of other areas. Each of us has our own talents and abilities that are unique to us. Some of these talents may be in areas that you do not realize you have abilities in. You can consider studying more about these areas and focusing more on the areas that you would like to be able to accomplish. By focusing more on it, you will allow yourself to expand on your new hobby or trait.

This works on areas in your life or business that you may not enjoy, but would like to expand on. If you do not enjoy budgeting for your company, but it is something that has to be done. Perhaps it is best to find someone who is budget or account oriented, and together the business will work smoothly, as you both desire for the business to flourish.

Setting up a business that gives you a chance to work on your natural talents, and that you think positively about accomplishing, and then your business can show the creative aspects of the business world. You will feel more confident and happy in your life, because your work is less stressful and something that you enjoy doing.

MOST SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE ARE DREAMERS
By Mentor Max

Your dreams are your vision of where you’ll be after the battle,
your prize at the end of your journey to success.

Your goals are the steps you take to finally attain your prize.

Unless you’re willing to work hard
and establish some discipline in your life,
all of your dreams will be pipe dreams,
little mental fantasy trips that will never materialize.

Make concrete steps toward fulfilling your ultimate dream,
and start with solid objectives called goals.

Your dreams are where you want to go,
your goals are how you get there.

The indispensable first step
to getting the things you want out of life is this:
decide what you want.

Don’t be afraid to think big and dare to be great.
Dreamers are not content with mediocrity.
They never dream of going halfway.

People with goals succeed because they know where they’re going.

A TOUCH OF HUMOR: HOW COLD WAS IT?

IT WAS SO COLD ….

  • Playboy magazine stopped publishing because no women would take their clothes off.
  • the computer store was selling giant keyboards so people could type with mittens.
  • “hot pants” started selling again…. until people figured out they weren’t.
  • kids had to stay inside all week … parents are now organizing a “teacher appreciation day.”
  • anyone with a body temperature near 104°F was in danger of being hauled out of their sickbed and used as a heater.
  • firefighters couldn’t convince people to get out of their houses when they caught fire.
  • we had to chop up the piano for firewood … but we only got two chords.
  • we didn’t clean the house, we just defrosted it.
  • I tried to take the garbage out, but it didn’t want to go.
  • we pulled everything out of the freezer and huddled inside it to warm up.
